This is a poem written by a teenager with terminal cancer. She wants to see how many people get her poem. Please pass it on. This poem was written by a terminally ill young girl in a New York hospital. It was sent by a medical doctor- make sure to read what is wriiten in the closing statement AFTER THE POEM.

SLOW DANCE

Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round?
Or listened to the rain slapping on the ground?
Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

You better slow down
Don't dance so fast.
Time is short
The music won't last.

Do you run through each day on the fly?
When you ask,'How are you?'
Do you hear the reply?

Do you lie in your bed
With the next hundred chores
Running through your head?

You'd better slow down
Don't dance so fast.
Time is short
The music won't last.

Ever told your child,
'We'll do it tomorrow'?
And in your haste,
Not see his sorrow?

Ever lost touch,
Let a good friendship die
Cause you never had time
To call and say,'Hi'

Don't dance so fast.
Time is short
The music won't last...

When you run so fast to get somewhere
You miss half the fun of getting there.
When you worry and hurry through your day,
It is like an unopened gift...thrown away.

Life is not a race.
Do take it slower
Hear the music
Before the song is over.

This young girl has 6 months left to live, and as her dying wish, she wanted to send a letter telling everyone to live their life to the fullest, since she never will. She'll never make it to prom, graduate from high school, or get married and have a family of her own.

I recieved this e-mail from a friend of mine and thought it best if I shared this with everyone on cooltown. I don't have a lot of contacts so I decided to post this discussion so that I can jhelp this young girl with her last request to let everyone know how important it is to live your life to the fullest.
The doctor who first sent this poem to the people he knew, is Dr. Dennis Shields, a professor in the Department of Developmental and Molecular Biology 1300 Morris Park Avenue Bronx, New York 10461

This is heart-breaking Selena...i actually got tears in my eyes while reading this!!! Im most definately gonna pass this on,im making a turn at the cancer ward today! Some of us don't realise just how precious life really is..that's exactly why i dedicate so much of my time to cancer and aids projects,it's worth it! Just puttin a smile on those sad faces makes my day and i immediatly forget my sorrows...Thanx Selena! I hope this is a wake-up call to many!
Touching. Thanks for sharing Selena. Many will see it and act on it.
This such a beautiful poem and truly sad. Its indeed like an eye opener to make one realize that we have to be thankful for what we have. There is so many people out there that would trade places with us in an instant if that was possible.

We really believe that life owes us, which is not the case. We as humans owe thanks to God to open our eyes everyday, to give is clear minds, good health and appreciation for the small unnoticed things in life. Thanks for this story, it made me realized again that I have more then I need. Thank you God!
