'Best of The Best 3'
Best ever was Stanley Kubrick's '2001: a Space Odyssey' (1968). A complex plot revealed almost entirely visually. There is dialogue throughout, yet it's the pictures that tell the story and exploit to the utmost what should always be primarily a visual medium. Further evidence of Kubrick's genius (as if any was required).
Most recently, Lars Von Trier's 'Antichrist' is the most mind-blowing film I've seen for many years, both visually and thematically. It created a mass of controversy when it was screened for the first time at Cannes this year. Critics either love it or hate it. A fascinating and confrontational discussion centering on the nature of the rational and irrational aspects of human psyche, and the inevitable collision of these two opposing forces within all of us. Not the faint-hearted, but if you're prepared to take the trip, you may just see the most intriguing film of your life.
