Have to admit I never heard that fairy tale ( about wasim ) before. Must check with the local imams. Muslims are from a different school of thought in the Cape. Better water and air.

There are rules and exceptions to the rule. Laws and concessions to the law. Man and woman were created equal. Moreover, man was empowered with many abilities, among which was his strong and ever ready sexual prowess. Females on the other hand were adorned with an ability to entice and attract males. Don’t know if you heard of a demon by the name of wasim who sits at the eye of man and draws his attention to any on coming woman and in response to his invitation and call, he sits at a female’s base to which is the very first thing a man looks at on seeing any woman. Then he blows into his and her sexual organs to help them become sexually aroused for each other.

He then hops into the man and flows into his blood stream and gets him all horny and worked up. What keeps men and women like you from pouncing on each other each time you meet and become attracted? Things called bung gatheid, bashfulness, shamefulness, and morality, fear of rejection and fear of the law, of being accused of rape. Had it not been for laws, we all would have lived like animals.

It is the law of God and of the land that maintain the honor and dignity of females. God prescribed some things called ‘proposal and consent’. It is only her consent and pleasure that saves your ass from rotting in prison and ultimately, in hell. Therefore, a man has to approach a woman in a civil and dignified manner and propose his feelings and interest before he unleashes his sexual interests towards the woman of his choice.

I am most certain that you would fit in perfectly in any lawless setting, showing little or no regard for females and whacking the whole bang lot of them, and publishing books on how to screw them better and longer, as a trick to keep them coming for more, instead of winning them with your strength of character and human nature. Least of which, to eyeball with lust and admiration, to satiate your uncouth animal instincts.

Interesting take on the primitives and savages. The way I look at it, every group who had a thousand laws and prohibitions must have been a very sinful and barbaric lot. The Semites would be on top of the list with 613 laws, most of it about splitting hooves and braiding hair!

If you do not jump every naked woman you see, then why do you need a law to remind you or hide the woman from sight?

Come now Trevor...stop being like so maan. That's what we guys do here. Hijack discussions and drift a little and in the old end, we learn something from someone and even about ourselves and others. Coming back to your comment. How far is a Prophet from God and the Fear of God, the Medieval Age of Ignorance and the Modern Age to our topic that you find all these subtopics to be strange and deviant from our discussion? And by the way, where the hell is the lady who started this forum?

Ya, you can depend on Bodhidharma to confuse everybody with the facts. I was thinking: My ancestors walked around with a minute apron to protect the bare essentials. I don't have any concrete evidence, but can deduce that strip shows would not get you extra meat or mealies. Soliciting at the riverbank would also be ridiculous. So were we more moral when naked?

I have been on topless beaches and at least once to Sandy Bay. Nobody jumped each other's bones.

So there you guys have it, another dilemma.
Not as far as I know. I have a cousin who is called Abdul and my granddad was Ali. I am always surprised at the literalism of 21st century religion. I hate to call it fundamentalism, because fundamentalism means going back to basics. In literature we learn about metaphor, symbolism etc. I doubt if the ancients interpreted religion the way we do.

Thanks for the Khutba. Since the ancients determined our way life knowing full well that we will end up with the short end of the stick, I will interrogate their views. If true, it will stand up to any argument. If not it will perish with all the other ancient paths. The Semites with only a 3000 year history, most of it spent in the desert, are very cocky. Tell me, does anyone still pray to Ra, Zeus or Jupiter? If you have been around as long as India, have a billion plus people, plus others joining your way, then we can take up this conversation again. Doubt if your way will be around in 2000 year's time. It is indeed Al-Asr.

I invite people to a free state of thought. Reaching their full human potential. Like you said we are not responsible for the ancients and they should not be responsible for us. We have our own lives to live in the 21st century.

Question: If Islam is the perfection of religion, why did its glory days only lasted 300 years?

It took Christianity more than 300 years to get off the ground and it is still going from strength to strength reinventing itself in every new society. Compare it with Islam, stuck in the Middle Ages trying to get everybody into a one size fits all robe.

"That is a nation that has passed on. For them shall be what they earned from rewards and for you (as in us all) what we earn. And we shall not be questioned about their deeds!"
Between fundamentalism, literalism, liberalism and sufism are all philosophies and schools of thought. Faith and action are the two key elements that differentiate us from the rest of mankind. The surah, Wal-Asr, By the token of time, man is indeed in a state of loss, except for those who have faith and do good works and enjoin truth and enjoin patience - would have sufficed if no other chapters were to be revealed.
Faith has seventy odd links, the highest of which is to bear testimony to the fact that there is none worthy of worship besides Allah (God) and the lowest link is to remove harmful obstacles from the path of mankind.

Whoever sees any wrong doings amongst you should stop it with his hand, if not, with his tongue, otherwise, at least with his heart, and that is the weakest level of faith. (i.e. to fight evil with the heart.) My jihad aganist you is in your support of the evils of people who have gone astray and people who continue to incur Allah's wrath. My invitation is the oneness of Allah and the Prophethood of Muhammad. To what is yours? To yourself or nafs, or to Shaytan?

The above mentioned principles or fundamentals as you call them are established truths that will not change with the changing times. The interpretation of laws has the flexibility of being harmonized with the laws of any land as they involve people with different cultures and persuasions. Hence anything that conforms to our fundamental principles will be welcomed and encouraged and anything that contravenes must be cast overboard. IT is as simple as that.
